Tom Wolfe

I just got home from a great evening out to hear Tom Wolfe speak. It was great. He has so many stories, and he embodies that which has been lost over time. A great story teller who has his pulse on the city. He reminds me of days gone by with his stories, the idea of great writers getting together to discuss life and their own stories as old friends do. He told stories of people he has met through the years, friends that have come and gone, stories that made me laugh out loud, as well as ones that made me think. He spoke for just over an hour, and this was followed by a question and answer period. He is someone I could sit and listen to for hours on end. Very enjoyable. I am so glad I took the opportunity to see him!

To close...I found this today, and thought these were 6 great lines to live by:

No dreamer is ever too small; no dream is ever too big.
Practice random beauty and senseless acts of love.
Happiness is not given but exchanged.
Truth fears no questions.
Dare to be wise.
Laugh.

Weekend away

After another great weekend away, I am home again. Train rides, shopping, movie, walks, dinners, and a family gathering. I was informed this weekend that I now have an official adoptive family. My friends mom has bought me a pot for cooking, hit me for being a smartass - I do agree that I probably deserved it:), and got mad at me for putting my feet up on the train seats. As well as meeting a LARGE portion of the family, and being hugged and kissed by many strangers:), I am an unofficial member!

Had two small incidents though...nacho cheese everywhere at the movie...the holder thingy bent in the middle and I made a cheese trail to the table as well as got it all over my sleeve and down the front of my pants...DARN IT! And the second was a fall - thank heavens I was alone! I was walking up the escalator at the subway station and fell. OW!

Grass...

I heard a very funny conversation happen as I was walking home tonight. There were a couple of men talking along the grassline of the property of this house. One of the men was holding a grass edger. He was fully prepared to start working...however he was arguing with the other man, telling him very simply that a shovel would simply not work. You can't edge with a shovel he kept saying, with the other insisting that it would work just fine. Both shook their corresponding tool as they argued. Very funny. Made me laugh to myself as I walked. Ahhhh...spring. I love it! :)

Slighty appropriate...

Relaxing and sorting!

Had a fabulous weekend - hope you all did too! Relaxing, visiting, and much fun. Something the doctor ordered for my life! Three dinners with many friends. Laughs on Thursday night like no other:) Great movie - Lucky Number Slevin - I highly recommend it. Some quality time with the Furbies! And SOOOOO much chocolate! YUM!

Also did a little writing, nothing special. Just got some thoughts down on paper. Random thoughts. Tried to sort through them, this helps me. It isn't much but I thought I would include it here.

I’m trying to fly
While life falls around me
I’m trying to fly
Even though my wings are broken
Real life
It’ll hit you when you’re not looking
It’ll show you things you’re not looking for
It’ll show you the truth like you’ve never seen it
Everyone knows it’s rigged
I’ve come to realize that I have to stop hiding from my memories
I can’t sit by and watch anymore
I have to reorganize my life
It's time to restructure, sort out
I think I’ll have to say goodbye
Even though I know there are those that love me here and there
I think I’ll have to say goodbye

A great weekend!

Had a fantastic weekend driving to Rochester Saturday morning. Had quite an adventure along the way with many pictures, a couple videos (I even took a video while driving, and like Shannon so kindly pointed out I didn't even drive off the road!!), and then exploring. Did a little shopping while we were there (like 10 types of hand cream later, and having to explain to a lady at one of the stores where Alberta is) followed by a great dinner at a burrito place that Luke recommended - thanks again for that!

Sunday we spent quite awhile exploring the abandoned subway (RIRTR) that ran in Rochester from 1927 - 1957. So great!! Kinda creepy at times but very cool. A lot of excellent tags by some very talented people to check out as you walk along. I would DEFINITELY recommend going to take a look if you get the chance!

On the way home, after dropping everything off at home, we had a close call getting the car back to the rental place. We had signed an agreement to bring the car back as close to empty as possible, so that we would get charged a significantly lower amount for gas. When we pulled off the 401 (for the second time after making a slight "OOPS!"), not knowing 100% sure where were are going, the car started to 'ding' at me, and I swear to you, we pulled in on fumes! Phew - that was a close one!

Monday night, after a relaxing day around TO, I am sad to see it all end. I'm pretty sure I'll be a total suck tomorrow morning when I take Shannon to the airport as it always seems like I'm saying goodbye. We had a great time, at least I know I did!!

Bring Me Water

A conversation yesterday with a close friend of mine yesterday has gotten me thinking again. Remembering the weeks before Christmas. She asked about something I had said in my last post. It’s opened the floodgates, so to speak. Weird. I thought I was ok with everything, and I am, but still. It is hard to think about, to remember, to forget. Thanks for making me talk about it a little though!

For whatever reason, I go to this song, Bring Me Water by Dexter Freebish. Strange how that works in my world…

Bring me water
Bring me laughter
Dancing children in a pasture

Going nowhere
Life's disaster
Spirits broken
Does it matter?

Bring me water
Bring me laughter
Dancing children in a pasture

Going nowhere
Life's disaster
Calling to the ever after
